INTRODUCTION

Plans have been or are being developed by the Watershed Conservation Authority for the following areas:

  • Azusa River Wilderness Park
        The WCA has proposed creation of Azusa River Wilderness Park for use as parkland and watershed protection. The site, which consists of five properties, lies along Highway 39 in San Gabriel Canyon near the northern boundary of the City of Azusa. Two properties have been acquired.   • Duck Farm
        The former Woodland Duck Farm was acquired by the WCA in December 2004., The property is wedged between the 605 Freeway and the San Gabriel River and stretches for two miles along the river in the unincorporated community of Basset, north of the 60 Freeway and south of the 10 Freeway.   • Emerald Necklace
    The Emerald Necklace is a 17-mile interconnected network of bikeways, multi-use trails, parks, and greenways along the Rio Hondo and the San Gabriel River. The WCA conduct00000ed a study that identified feasible projects that support the Emerald Necklace Vision. Subsequently, sixteen projects were identified that best met the goals of the Emerald Necklace Implementation Plan - Phase 1. [More details]

  • Parque Dos Rios
         The 7.6+ acre property in the City of South Gate is located between the 710 Freeway and the Los Angeles River. [More details]
     
  • Walnut Creek Habitat & Open Space Project
        The project includes 60 .9 acres located in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County adjacent to the City of San Dimas. [More details]
     
  • Whittier Narrows Recreation Area
        Whittier Narrows Recreation Area (WNRA) serves many purposes: flood protection, water conservation, and public recreation. The Army Corps of Engineers leases approximately 1,200 acres to Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation and the City of Pico Rivera for recreation.
        The WCA is the Lead Agency for the WNRA Master Development Plan Input, and has prepared a Program Environmental Impact Report for the project. [More details]
